Restoration

Vandaag krijgen we Engelse hulp uit Firenze! Mathew, een kennis op doorreis, komt een handje toesteken. Hij knapt in zijn vrije tijd een Volkswagen kever op! Voorlopig laten we het karwei van het oppoetsen van de draagarmen waaraan we eergisteren begonnen, even achterwege. Mathew en ik halen alvast de deuren vanonder het stof om de glaspartijen, deurklinken en chroomomlijstingen te demonteren. Eerst worden de deurklinken langs binnen- en buitenzijde verwijderd en de –verschenen- deurbekleding losgemaakt. Het deurontgrendelingssysteem is snel uit elkaar gehaald. De vijzen die twee rails, die de glaspartij begeleiden als ze neergedraaid wordt, vasthouden moeten doorgeslepen worden. We proberen voorzichtig de ramen los te wrikken maar zonder succes! Het kleine ventilatieraam laat zich wel verwijderen. Nu kunnen de twee rails losgemaakt worden. De “stoffen” bekleding van de rails is versleten, wat waarschijnlijk verklaard waarom de ramen zo stroef lopen. Na enkele pogingen vissen we eindelijk uit hoe de grote glaspartij wordt vastgehouden! De glaspartij rust in een sleuf die verbonden is met het “draaisysteem” van de raamhendel. De metalen verbindingsstaaf blijkt eenvoudig los te schuiven uit de raamsleuf. De chromen vensteromlijsting wordt tijdens het losmaken beschadigd en zal vervangen moeten worden. Uiteindelijk kunnen we de glaspartij uit de deur heffen!

Lode start met het lassen van een constructie die de motor kan vasthouden wanneer we deze willen starten bij wijze van controle, vooraleer het motorblok terug ingebouwd zal worden.
